And the winner is…
The December issue of What Mountain Bike was christened the “Birzman” issue around the offices at Merida with not only a great interview with Birzman main-man and founder, Lawrence Kuo, but also a fantastic competition in which more than £1750 worth of Birzman prizes could be won.
In an interesting twist to the standard “giveaway” format the first prize included not only a wish-list of Birzman premium tools but also the training on how best to use it with reformed Pro-Mechanic and now Birzman Brand Manager, David Webster.
What MTB were inundated with hundreds of entries and Peter Osuch from Leeds emerged as the lucky first prize winner.
A keen rider and a vastly experienced mountain biker Peter spends countless hours in the Lakes, Dalby Forest and his local trails but was super-excited to spend the day at Merida’s HQ accompanied by his riding buddy David Thomason.
Together they got the low-down on the latest in Birzman tool and pump designs, and although accomplished mechanics themselves, the opportunity to hear some tips and tricks on how to use the tools to best effect.
After having a good look around the Merida offices, the guys met the Merida team and were shown the latest tech from Merida, Alpina helmets and Birzman. Finally, it was time to get down to the main event of the day, namely, tackling those mechanical challenges Peter and David wanted to focus on.
At Peter and David’s request both front-mech adjustment and suspension set-up were at the top of the list for the day.
After some theory, the guys were equipped with the correct Birzman tools and quickly set-about putting what they had into practice.
In no-time at all Peter and David had their steeds fettled to perfection, indeed the only part of the day not to go to plan involved our planned ride around the local Merida office single-track on freshly tuned bikes.
Unfortunately, injuries and hunger made us think better of it, so the group agreed to adjourn to one of Nottingham’s better cafes (a Merida team favourite) for some more good conversation, fuelled by coffee and great food.
A fantastic day was had by all and it was great to be able to spend some time with two of the nicest guys you could hope to meet on the trail.
Happy trails to both Peter and David from the team @ Merida UK.
