Great result at Dalby Forest.
Our UK superstar rider Paul Hopkins is reigning National Champion, but had a shocking start to his 2011 campaign puncturing in round 1 at Sherwood Pines.
So for the 2nd race at Dalby Forest he was on the grid in the 8th and final row which as the commentator reported was a very unusual sight!
The sprint from the line was crucial to get past as many riders as possible before hitting the single track as that would inevitably slow him down and give the leaders chance to get away.
By the time he got to the single track he was into about 20th place, and every time the course allowed he nipped around more riders.
As he passed through the arena for the first time, the commentator was yelling excitedly that Paul had gone from nearly last to 2nd in just one lap!
Paul then set about securing victory, catching and passing Ian Jeremiah on the final climb.
You have to feel sorry for his championship rivals – with that grid position he should have been nowhere, yet he still won!
