BBC’s early evening Flagship - One Show sees Alpina Brand Ambassador James Cracknell talk Helmet Compulsion.

Helmet compulsion is a hot topic at the moment with both corners fighting hard for their side to be heard. The BBC looked at the subject in a recent programme of The One Show on the 16th May 2011, which regularly achieves viewing figures of between 5-6 million per show.

James Cracknell appeared on the One Show sofa to put forward the pro-compulsion argument. One he is well placed to discuss given his horrific accident last year and subsequent miraculous recovery (thanks in part to his top of the range Alpina Pheos Helmet).

James spoke passionately and articulately about the reasons why he felt all riders should use quality helmets and even brought the Alpina Pheos helmet that saved his life into the studio as a prop.

Most of the controversy around any potential Helmet law relates to the alleged impact on an individual’s freedom of choice, but we at Merida UK are proud to support James and others in their Pro-Helmet use stance.

The bottom line is a quality helmet has to be better than nothing in the event of even a minor spill.
