And there are off…

The wounded soldiers’ coast to coast mountain bike challenge started on Monday the 4th July with the traditional ‘dipping of the wheels’ in the Irish Sea in St Bees before heading east towards Robin Hood’s Bay.

Internet connection has been very sporadic so far resulting in only very little news and updates coming through from the soldiers on their bikes. But here a quick update of how things are going so far.

Heading east from St Bees the riding has been great till the riders hit the Black Sail Pass which not just made the riders carry and/or push their bikes but also realise the sheer size of the challenge ahead of them. Following on from there the trail took them over the Wasdale Pass past Wastwater before finally tuning in for the night near Coniston (approx. 70km in).

Tuesday was all about the Lake District which threw pretty much 90km of demanding terrain (mixed in with some very technical DH sections) at the team and pushed the over all count up to 160km before having a well deserved rest.

Yesterdays ride took the soldiers over the Pennines (passing the highest pub in England) which was dominated by not just technical trails but also challenging weather – it is a real MTB trip after all!

So far the riders only endured one puncture and no technical problems. However their bodies have a different story to tell.

Only two more days to go on the coast to coast challenge and we will be back with some more news from our soldiers on their way to Robin Hood’s Bay.
