James Cracknell going from strength to strength
Merida Bikes and Alpina helmets ambassador James Cracknell has been out on his bike over the last couple of weeks putting his stamp on some of the most prestigious events the UK has to offer.
First up was the Adidas Terrex Coast to Coast which took part on the 26-29th August. Competitors had to cross the country from Whitehaven to Robin Hoods Bay over four days completing a multitude of challenges including running, road and offroad cycling, climbing, kayaking and swimming.
James and his Adidas Terrex team dominated the kayaking, swimming and cycling stages but had to give way to the strong fell runners of the Team Accelerate to come in a fantastic 2nd place. James was philosophical that he didn’t get much fell running practice in Chiswick! His trusted Merida 0.Nine which had been blinged up to take part in last years fateful cross America challenge was given an extra set of superfly Mavic wheels with slick tyres on so James was as efficient as possible on both surfaces. James just wished that the cycling stages were a bit further as they destroyed the competition on those sections.
But that was not it. The weekend after the Adidas Terrex Coast to Coast, rather than sitting at home and enjoying some off-time, James took his Time Warp to the BTTC TT – a 20.9mile long race against the clock in which James managed to come 8th in his age group averaging 375watts. The rider in 6th position averaged only 289watts which means that with a little help on getting his TIME WARP even more perfect he should be able to jump a few places forward.
Even though the season seems to be coming to an end James will have some more interesting challenges lined up. So watch this space.
