Last season, this was the MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM’s most successful bike. Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå profited the most from changing to a twentyniner hardtail, winning another European Crosscountry championship and silver medals at both the Crosscountry and marathon World championships. No wonder the BIG.NINE continues to be an important part of the team’s fleet for 2013.
Weighing in at just 1090 grams*, the BIG.NINE’s «Nano Matrix Carbon» frame is not just extraordinarily lightweight for a twentyniner frame, but also exceedingly comfortable. You can literally feel how the frame absorbs vibrations and hits dished out by the surface, thus saving the rider’s power.
Due to their proven «Flex Stay»-profile and the innovative «Bio Fibre Damping Compound» fibre mix that features flax fibres woven into the carbon matrix, the Big.NINE’s seat stays offer superior damping characteristics. Another factor adding to the amazingly comfortable ride the BIG.NINE has to offer is the seat tube that tapers down all the way from the torsionally rigid BB30 bottom bracket to the seat post with its svelte 27.2mm diameter. Up front, the «X-Taper» head tube tapers from 1 1/8 to 1.5 inches in diameter, thus combining low weight and maximum stiffness, which is essential for reliable line choices in technically demanding sections. The 12mm thru axle in the rear is an integral part of the BIG.NINE’s concept, compensating for the lower rigidity of 29-inch wheels.
As one of the new partners of the MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM, RockShox supplies all of the team bikes with ultra lightweight SID XX suspension forks; The Sram group also delivers the 11-speed XX1 drive train, and each rider has the choice of either Gripshift or Trigger shifter options according to individual preferences. Campagnolo’s sister company Fulcrum has come aboard this year: For the pros of MMBT, the Italians have developed specific 27.5- and 29-inch wheels for both tubular tires and tubeless clinchers. These wheels are on par with the best tuning offers regarding weight, air tightness and most importantly sturdiness in racing conditions. Prologo supplies the saddles for the season 2013, and their patented «Slide Control System» offers better grip and support for the riders when climbing.
