According to a convincing theory, a bike should be designed as perfectly as possible for its respective application range – to create a two-wheeled specialist which is able to cover its sector’s individual requirements optimally. That’s exactly the reason why we design road racers, MTBs or triathlon machines which are hard to beat within their respective sectors. But what is the solution when the application range is extended? When the bike has to convince likewise on asphalt and gravel roads? Or has to be recreation companion and sports equipment? For MERIDA, the answer is the same: The bike has to be a specialist – but simply a very versatile one like our CROSSWAY with complete re-engineering for 2013.

At least since the UCI allows the unlimited utilization of disk brakes, cyclo-crossers have extended their enormous application range once again: They are sporty like roads racer and master off-road rides like MTBs. Sports equipment and sporty solution for everyday all at once.

Not only ambitious road racers visualize tough athletes on completely muddy bikes when they think of cyclo-crossers. This challenging bike sport was “officially” born at the French Riviera around the turn of the century 1899/1900 after it had gradually emerged from the winter training of road racers. Since those old days, cyclo-cross machines have changed their appearance and have developed certain mass appeal – but without negating their origin.
