MERIDA company founder Ike D.H. Tseng passed away at the age of 81

Ike D.H. Tseng, bike visionary and MERIDA company founder, passed away on 01/30/2012 at the age of 81. Up to his very last day, Ike D.H. Tseng directed the fortunes of our company and made MERIDA one of the world’s most significant bike manufacturers. The designated successor is his son Michael Tseng who has already been responsible for certain sectors of MERIDA’s corporate management for several years.

In 1972, Ike D.H. Tseng founded the Merida Industry Co., Ltd. with 57 employees then. Meanwhile, there are more than 3.000 MERIDA staff members all around the world. At the company headquarters in Yuanlin/Taiwan as well as in Shenzhen/China and Shandong/China, a total of about 2.000.000 bikes is currently produced every year. Ike D.H. Tseng repeatedly placed emphasis on his credo that low-budget bikes damage the market in the long run. Therefore he believed in innovation, stable value and new trends. In his speech “Think Bicycle, Think Taiwan“, the MERIDA company founder pointed out just recently that only the permanent search for new materials and functions would finally guarantee the new and therefore constant use of bicycles in all areas of life.

We deeply regret having lost a true visionary and are dedicated to honour his memory with our work.
