Even for an athlete of extraordinary format returning to the top level of the sport is not easy. Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå had planned to return to the elite ranks of the sport in 2010 after having taken a maternity leave in 2009. And she had been training hard and systematically to make this happen, but the results were not what she had hoped for. In 2011 however, the norwegian showed that she is likely to get back to her old strength for the Olympic games in London. She won the european Crosscountry Championships and showed a strong last part of the season with repeated worldcup podium finishes. this shows that Dahle Flesjå has a realistic chance to further add entries to her already impressive list of career successes. With eight World Championship titles and an Olympic gold medal under her belt, she only needs two more worldcup wins to become the most successful rider of all times in mountain biking’s worldcup.
