South-western Majorca offers top tours and great weather. This is especially attested by Beat Gfeller who has over 1.000.000 km in his legs.

Every spring, the squad of our MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM and the brand-new team bikes are presented in front of countless international journalists. Since many years, this happens on Majorca with the support of Philipp’s Bike Team. For good reason: Already in 1998, company founder Philipp Egli and his staff – pioneers in terms of organized bike holidays – chose the 4-star plus hotel Iberostar „Jardin del Sol“ (Santa Ponsa) as their base to provide bikers with optimum training or recreational conditions in the popular Balearic Island’s far south-west. Besides the Jardin del Sol and its outstanding amenities (e. g. modern suites with high-quality furnishings, adequate meals for athletes), particularly the location gives Santa Ponsa a unique appeal.

If tours in the flat south past the island’s capital Palma, trips through the gentle central hills via Calvia or collecting altitude metres on the scenic coastal road MA-10 through the Tramuntana Mountains in the west: The location of Philipp’s Bike Team is always an ideal starting point. The south-west enjoys also better weather than the rest of Majorca.

This is attested regularly not only by the Spanish Meteorological Service, but also and especially by Beat Gfeller: The Sports Director of Philipp’s Bike Team does not only journalize the Majorcan climate on a daily basis, but also his own cycling performance. Since 1998, the 6x-year-old Swiss tour guide has been leading, in particular, fast groups of “mile-eaters” – no surprise, given his now over 1.000.000 road bike kilometres.

At an annual cycling performance of 32.000 km, Beat Gfeller has absolved nearly 400.000 km on MERIDA bikes so far. “In 1968, my first bike had a 52/48 crankset and only four sprockets at the rear,” the Sports Director remembers. Today, he guides his groups on a current MERIDA REACTO. About 500 MERIDA rental bikes ensure that all customers of Philipp’s Bike Team are able to choose an exactly suitable model for any kind of tour. This applies equally to swift “mile-eaters” with a preference for carbon frames as well as to “epicures” and “touring cyclists” who pedal on MERIDA trekking, cross or mountain bikes. In any case, all riders are well advised to seek proximity to Beat Gfeller during the evening chat – for sure, nobody has experienced more stories than the Sport Director during his 1.000.000 road bike kilometres.
