NEW: Merida Optimized Riding Engineering

It can’t be taken for granted that a full suspension MTB functions equally well in all available frame sizes. In our case, this high art of engineering is called: M.O.R.E. – „MERIDA Optimized Ride Engineering“

There are many possibilities to construct the rear stay of a full suspension MTB (short: “fully”). In this context, one key question concerns the position of the rocker link’s pivoting point. The chain position has great influence on the mutual interference between drivetrain forces and suspension system. Thus it has to be clarified which of the 27 or 30 gears is used principally: Especially in “favourite gears”, the function should be as neutral as possible. Another necessity is the individual calculation of the angle at which the suspension strut is triggered by the rocker link during deflection. Only then, an adequate spring characteristic can be achieved. Therefore, e. g. an XC racer and a “long-stroke” All Mountain bike must be constructed in completely different ways – even if both follow the same basic principle. All these aspects are taken into account by the “M.O.R.E.” concept of our R&D experts.

The type of suspension system that serves as “fully basis” is not decisive – nor the question if “single-pivot”, “multi-pivot” or “VPP”. Important instead: The amount of efficiency and success with which the respective system is realized – because every chassis should react as sensitively as possible to the ground while the drivetrain influences should be as small as possible. These two characteristics seem to be mutually exclusive. In MY 2012, all MERIDA fullies with a suspension travel between 100 and 140 mm are constructed as “supported single-pivot” bikes. In spite of this shared basic concept, the models NINETY-NINE, ONE-TWENTY and ONE-FORTY function in totally different ways. For optimum definition of all relevant data, our R&D experts work together closely with the pro riders of our MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM. Simultaneously, they cooperate also with the producers of the suspension elements to find the best possible configuration among dozens of options. An effort that bikers experience literally – because MERIDA gives you M.O.R.E.!

Merida Features

M.O.R.E. SUSPENSION

Merida Optimized Ride Engineering – full-suspension with a kinematic being perfectly designed for the specific application.

POST-MOUNT DISC

Direct assembling of the disc-caliper at the frame’s rear drop-out – simplified adjustment of the caliper.

12-142 THRU-AXLE

12mm thru-axle with 142 drop-out width: Increased stiffness and perfect disc-rotor position, no tools required for wheel disassembling.

SMOOTH-WELDING

Smoothened welding line by using specific welding technology - improved outlook, without any weakening of the welding structure.

DOUBLE CHAMBER TECHNOLOGY

Integrated reinforcing rib separates highly stressed carbon-tubes into 2 individual chambers; bending strength and hit-resistance are getting improved.

SHOTGUN 6061

MERIDA-typical shaped down-tube with twin-curved bottom, for increase of bending- and torsion-stiffness.

HFS HYDRO FORMING SYSTEM

Through an delicate, hydraulic forced forming process 3-dimensional shaped tubes made of Prolite 66 alloy.

CARBON FORK

Front fork made of carbon composite material; at some models 100% made of carbon composite.

NANO MATRIX CARBON

NANO-particles reinforce the epoxy-based matrix structure - for up to 40% improved hit-resitance.

TFS TECHNO FORMING SYSTEM

Through some mechanical pressing-operations 3-dimensional shaped tubes made of Racelite 6061 alloy.

FLEX-STAY

Special shaped seat- and/or chain-stays improve vibration-damping and create noticeable comfort.

AWS

Anti Wrinkle System – through three dimensional shaped silicone inserts, which will be removed after the manufacturing process, the internal surface of the carbon monocoque gets significantly improved. Less wrinkles create higher stiffness and improve durability.

MATTS TAPER TOP-TUBE

MATTS Shotgun top-tube with a conic shaped cross-section, getting slimmer to the rear.

LOCK-OUT

Device to lock the suspension (fork and/or rear-shock) through switching a lever, being located directly at the fork-crown or shock.

INTERNAL CABLE

Brake or shifting-cables routed internally through the frame’s tubes. Clean and improved outlook, without any functional disadvantages.

RACELITE 6061 ALUMINUM

ATTS down-tube with MERIDA-typical Shotgun shape.

REMOTE LOCK-OUT

Device to lock the suspension (fork and/or rear-shock) through switching a cable actuated lever, being mounted at the handlebar.

STRUCTURE ELEMENTS

Carbon-frame, which is made from compact dimensioned carbon frame-segments. The bonding of these elements is made according to the specific stress lasting at the different areas, either by internal joints or tube-to-tube.

PROLITE 66 TRIPLE BUTTED ALUMINUM

MERIDA's Top-Alloy made of 6066 high-strength aluminum, with triple butted walls.

FLOATING DISC

Pat. pended MERIDA disc-brake device with 10 mm through-axle, which separates suspension- and braking forces completely.

K-MOUNT DROP-OUT

Disc-dropout with integrated 2-bolt direct-mount for HEBIE rear-frame kick-stand.

EGG-SHAPE HEADTUBE

Egg-shaped head-tube with semi integrated bearings and bigger dimensions at the tube's centre - for an optimim in head-tube stiffness.

FORK TRAVEL HARDTAIL

Indication of the maximum fork-travel at bikes with suspension-fork

FRONT/REAR TRAVEL SUSPENSION

Indication of the maximum fork- and rear-wheel travel at bikes with full suspension.

CONE-HEAD HEAD-TUBE

Conically shaped headtube, which gets slimmer to its upper end; semi integrated bearing at the bottom and external cup headset at the top.

2 x 10 MTB

Race drive-train, which demands less front shifting than triple chain-wheels: Less power-loss and reduced risk of chain-suck.
