JOSÉ ANTONIO HERMIDA

XC World Champion 2010, Spanish National Champion Cross Country 2011

Wearing the rainbow jersey that he had been chasing for so long, José Hermida showed his real strengths throughout 2011’s season: on a wide variety of courses the spaniard was racing courageously, almost always finishing far up front. the only thing missing was a major victory – except for his win at the spanish national championships. But the following facts show the consistently high level Hermida has been competing on throughout 2011: at the end of the season, he came in fourth in the Worldcup’s overall standings, finished in an unrewarding, yet strong fourth position at the world championships and was fifth in the uCi’s world rank- ing. that is some serious consistency on a world-class level. and seen the fact that Hermida has already won an Olympic silver medal in athens, one thing is clear: He is going to focus on London’s Olympic games in 2012.
