2011 was a bit of a so-so year for Andreas Kugler: To his credit there’s the overall victory in the Trans Schwarzwald and a stage win in the transalp, teaming up with Hannes Genze. On the other hand, Kugler was really out of luck at longdistance Championships: at the World Marathon Championships, he had to abandon the race after a crash, at the european Marathon Championships he got stopped by a mechanical problem, and at the swiss national Marathon Championships he saw no chance to defend his title and ended up in fourth after the race had to be stopped midway due to a sudden onset of winter. these results were not good enough to place him within the top 30 of the UCI’s world ranking at the end of the season. But a couple of top 10 finishes in races of the marathon world series show that there really is only one way for andreas kugler in 2012, and that is up.
