Since MERIDA has joined the UCI WorldTour as title sponsor of the TEAM LAMPRE-MERIDA in early 2013, much has been happening in the wide range of road racer models. Already since the previous year, the SCULTURA SL enriches our program as an excellent high-end-racer which has by now been able to establish itself successfully in the “Champions League of Road Racing”. For 2014, two downright competent specialists are added: As a thoroughbred aero machine, the REACTO EVO matches our elite athletes’ demand for the perfect working tool for sprints, solo escapes and hill climb time trial. On the other hand, the RIDE PRO is optimally suitable for the tough challenges of the famous “cobblestone classics” where speed is primarily defined via comfort.

Already at very first sight, it becomes evident that the REACTO EVO is designed even more aerodynamic from MY 2014: Within the strict UCI development limitations, the aerodynamically optimized “Fastback” profiles with their characteristic drop shape enable an ideal airflow all around the REACTO EVO – and therefore offer even better aerodynamic properties in comparison to the semi-aero concept of the previous model. But not only the frame shape has a direct effect on the air resistance – especially the fork design and the brakes’ positions were also in focus with regard to “streamlining”. As far as the fork was concerned, the MERIDA R&D experts completely trusted in the concept of three separate inflow components which was successfully tested in the wind tunnel for the WARP TT (see pages 20 and 21): The two fork blades are positioned especially far away from each other so that they and the front wheel rotating in between each become separate inflow bodies – with the advantage that unwanted turbulences are effectively reduced within this area hit by a nearly laminar inflow. The system is complemented by the utilization of the new brake standard: Thanks to direct mounting, the front brake’s integration into the complete system works in an aerodynamically optimum way and without any loss of braking power. The same concept applies to the rear brake directly positioned behind the bottom bracket.

But not only with regard to air resistance, our REACTO EVO presents itself as a genuine high-end road racer: Its “Tapered Steerer” (increasing from 1 1/8” at the top to 1.5” at the bottom) and the torsion-resistant BB386 bottom bracket transfer every impulse of the rider directly onto the asphalt. At the same time, the bike remains remarkably light due to its frame weight just above 1000 g.


The well-proven “S-Flex” seat post optimizes the already high comfort of the rear stay; thanks to its pivoted head, the post enables an individual adjustment of the seating angle (72-75°). Internal routing of all cables as well as a top tube with integrated seatpost clamp perfect our REACTO EVO’s clean appearance.

The RIDE PRO (also new for 2014) shows similarities to cars with an off-road chassis setup: This new comfort racer combines the best qualities of the SCULTURA SL with the impressive virtues of the comfortable RIDE COMP. Thus our new RIDE PRO is the TEAM LAMPRE-MERIDA’s primary working tool for absolving races on rough roads. Its extremely flat seat stays (construction height just 10 mm) which are connected to the seat tube at a very low position provide excellent rear stay flex. In addition, the utilized “Bio Fiber Damping Compound” technology guarantees effective absorption of all vibrations which are transferred from the road to the wheel. The agile “Flex Stay” rear stay allows tyre widths up to 28 mm.

The new fork of the RIDE PRO reveals its comfort already at very first sight: The sophisticated construction with integrated “Double Chamber” technology provides brilliant handling precision in combination with perceptible shock absorption – especially on really rough surfaces, which means that the athlete gets exhausted clearly much later. As very first carbon road racer in MERIDA’s line-up history, the RIDE PRO is also prepared for the installation of fenders for the wet season. Further on, compatibility to all mechanical and electrical drivetrain groups made by Shimano, Sram or Campagnolo is given as well.

Saves energy reserves

Top performance also on rough surfaces? The flexible “S-Flex” seatpost of the REACTO EVO reduces the athlete’s muscular exhaustion in spite of the stiff aero profile.

Low-bed stays

Seatstays as a comfort factor: The lowly attached stays of the RIDE rearstay have an extremely flat shape (only 10 mm) and offer perceptible damping.
