Good news for Wolfgang Sacher: As in the previous year, the Paralympics Champion from Penzberg (Germany) is sponsored by Merida. With immediate effect, the internationally renowned bike manufacturer extends cooperation with the 43-year-old athlete by supporting Sacher’s current season via special competition models for all bike disciplines.
As one of the world’s leading bike manufacturers, Merida equips one of the best international Pro MTB teams: The Multivan Merida Biking Team. Simultaneously, the brand also acts as a very active sponsor within the road racing sector. Now, Wolfgang Sacher has entered the company’s support pool as first handicapped athlete. The Taiwanese manufacturer thereby gives a dedicated example for one of Sacher’s main intentions: Integration.
During the official Merida team presentation, Sacher met team manager Andreas Rottler and checked his new bike material for the first time. The Handicapped Sportsman of the Year 2008 especially appreciated his new Time Warp: This TT machine’s futuristic-looking design offers special aerodynamic advantages and is meant to bestow even more success on Sacher within his favourite discipline.
This year, Sacher aims at defending his current German titles. His second objective is winning a medal at the Individual TT World Championships. That’s why his 2010 season will also include very special competitions such as the German Professional TT Championships.

Wolfgang Sacher – Paralympics-Sieger und Sportler des Jahres: "Testing my new material was completely convincing. The Merida bikes really represent the best and most modern competition basis available for my personal purposes – and therefore brilliant preconditions for achieving my 2010 objectives. I especially appreciate the new Time Warp: This TT machine does not only support my ambition to ride into the medal ranks at the World Championships – I will also utilize it to absolve the German Professional Championships as a handicapped athlete. For the first time, all of my bikes will also feature the electronic Shimano Di2 shifting system providing even better adaption to my handicap. So in fact, everything just depends on my personal performance now. I am very happy that Merida confides in me and supports disabled sports."
Andreas Rottler, Merida Europe Marketing: „Wolfgang Sacher represents our sponsoring concept in an excellent way: As an absolutely exceptional personality, he shows an unbelievable performance in the saddle. It is fascinating how Wolfgang accomplishes such amazing finish times and successes despite of his handicap. His life story, of course, is equally impressive – Sacher demonstrates us what can be possible through strength of will and appropriate attitude. Unfortunately, disabled athletes are still standing in the shadow of “conventional” sports. We consider it one of our responsibilities to counteract this constellation and are going to integrate Wolfgang into our communication concept.“
