Two more years for Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå

The career of Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå is unparalleled. Still the doyenne of mountain biking is not tired yet: The Norwegian has extended her contract with the MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM by another two years - and sets sails to break some of the records in the history of the sport.

Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå’s career is truly unique: She joined MERIDA in 2002 and she’s been with the MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM ever since it started. Throughout the years the 41 year-old Norwegian has won 9 World championship titles and 28 races in the cross-country Worldcup. She’s one race win short of becoming the most successful athlete ever in the history of mountainbiking’s Worldcup. And the only woman within the MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM has shown that she’s still far from being on the shelf last season: The Norwegian finished the year in 5th in the World ranking. In the Worldcup’s overall standings she ended the season in 6th place despite having missed out on three races. She finished within the top3 at the other four Worldcup races, getting 2nd three times, and she added another national championship title to her tally. On the downside, the World championships in her home country turned out to be a setback: Despite her meticulous preparations she could not perform at her normal level in Hafjell, finishing the race in a lowly 9th place.

But Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå got over this disappointment quickly: After a short moment of reflection and relaxation she took the decision to add two more years until the end of 2016 to her already unparalleled career. „Of course I’m happy to continue riding for the MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM. I’m fully motivated to train hard throughout the winter and his lay the proper foundation for a strong season 2015“, the Norwegian explains and continues with a look forward: „Of course the selection for the Olympic games is a priority next year. If I make it there, Rio de Janeiro will be my fifth Olympic summer games, and I do not intend to go there as a tourist. Another big goal obviously is a 29th race win in the Worldcup. My results from last season show that I was not far off the winning pace at more than one race - and as we all know everything can happen in mountain bike race until you have crossed the finish line.“

Team manager Fabian Aust is also very happy about the extension of the contract: „It’s great to keep on working with Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå for another two years. She’s mountainbiking’s most successful athlete of all times and a figurehead for both the MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM and MERIDA as a brand. Her enthusiasm for the sport is unabated, and the precision she shows in her daily work continues to be astonishing even after all these years.“
