Gunn-Rita Dahle-Flesjå

For 2010’s season, finding her way back to the world’s elite wasthe top priority for Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå. At the European marathon championships she won a silver medal, and later shefinished in sixth at the World championships. With a third place at the prestigious Roc d’Azur race, she also proved that she’s aforce to be reckoned with over the Olympic distance. Dahle is right on target to return to her world class level in time for 2012’sOlympic games, and then she should be in the race for her third Olympic gold medal. Besides that, she also aims to break the historicrecord of worldcup race wins: The eightfold World champion is only two victories short of breaking Juli Furtado’s long-lastingrecord.

José Antonio Hermida

2010 truly was José Hermida’s year! He won the eleventh Worldchampionship title in the history of the «Mulitvan Merida Biking Team». The Spaniard had already been World championin both the junior and under23 categories, now he succeeded on the elite level as well. Throughout the entire last season, Hermidawas not only the fastest but also the most popular mountain biker: In the sport of mountain biking, no one envies the likeable andjolly Spaniard this phenomenal triumph. By now, Hermida has won almost everything that can be won in the sport of mountainbiking, the only thing missing being an Olympic gold medal. He may have won a silver medal in Athens in 2004, but for London’sOlympic games he is looking to fill that last void in what is already a comprehensive medal collection.

Ralph Näf

After having won the European cross country championships in2009, Ralph Näf continued to add a second European marathon title to his tally the year after, and at the marathon World championships,he missed out on the victory ever so closely. That way, he could not repeat his double from 2006 when he won boththe marathon’s European and World championships. Näf’s focus is still on the Olympic cross country races, however, where heclimbed to the podium in three worldcup races in 2010. Next season, Näf has to do his best in order to position himself well inthe tough race for one of Switzerland’s three-men starting contingent at the Olympic games. And Näf has a reputation for peakingand excelling when it really counts.

Hannes Genze

Hannes Genze is one of the most valuable marathon specialistsof the «Multivan Merida Biking Team». Teaming up with Andreas Kugler, he forms one of the strongest teams in theworld. These two are set to compete for the overall victory in races such as the Cape-Epic, the TransSchwarzwald or thelegendary Transalp. Last season, this duo won yet another edition of the «Trans-Schwarzwald» race, and Genze continued on hisown to win the Birkebeiner Rittet marathon race in Norway. With two German champion titles, one European champion title anda number of victories at prestigious marathon races on his tally, Hannes Genze is one of the strongest long-distance specialists ofthe world. Apart from being a mountain bike racer, Genze also is involved in the development department of Merida & CenturionGermany as a graduate engineer, and on top of that he is an avid alpinist.

Jochen Käß

Within the «Multivan Merida Biking Team», Jochen Käß isan allrounder capable of competing with the World’s best riders both in cross country and in marathon races. For the team, heis a safe bet in the fight for points and top positions in the World ranking. Last season, he missed out ever so closely to winningboth national championship races in Germany. In the Olympic cross country race, only Moritz Milatz could keep him fromwinning. Seen these performances, Käß is in the running to represent Germany at London’s Olympic games. He topped off2010’s season with a win at the prestigious Roc d’Azur marathon race.

Anreas Kugler

Despite being one of the world’s strongest marathon racers, nobodyreally had Andreas Kugler on the short list of favourites for the Swiss national championships. He proved them wrong bysoloing to a superior victory, with his friend and training partner Ralph Näf following as runner-up. At the European championshipshe made it to the podium in third, and at the World championships he finished in a respectable 11th place. Teaming up withHannes Genze, Andreas Kugler is part of one of the strongest teams in long-distance stage races, winning last season’s «TransSchwarzwald» race and finishing in second at the legendary
«Transalp Challenge». Winning this prestigious stage race in theAlps remains one of the main targets of the duo Kugler/Genze as well as a podium finish at South Africa’s Cape Epic race.
