Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå third in Nove Mesto

At the third Worldcup race of the season in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå finished on the podium for the second time. José Hermida and Thomas Litscher finished in the top10 as well.

For the MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM the race weekend in Nove Mesto started with a disappointment. Julian Schelb returned from the starting loop in 7th in the men's under23 race. "But then I hit a rock that had not been there during the training sessions, and suffered a flat", Schelb explained after the race. After the walk to the tech zone and the repair the young German found himself back in 59th. On the way to the finish line he managed to move up to 22nd. "Of course I'm not happy with the result, but at least I had a good feeling regarding my body, so I'm pretty optimistic regarding the next race in Albstadt."

In the women's race Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå was riding in the first positions from the very start. But the Norwegian had no answer to the acceleration of young Frenchwoman Pauline Ferrand Prevot, who went on to win her first elite-level Worlcup race by a margin of almost three minutes. In the last third of the race she also had to let Canadian Catharine Pendrel pass her. But finishing in third, Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå scored her second podium finish of a season that has only really begun. "Right after the start I went a bit too fast, and I had to recover from that for a short while. Of course I'm happy when I finish on the podium, and none of today's top3 riders were competing in Australia."

Of all races, the race on home turf turned out as a disaster for Ondrej Cink. He suffered a flat on the starting loop and had to walk quite a distance to the tech zone . In the end Cink finished in 46th. José Hermida on the other hand soon made his way into the top5. "My start was not perfect, but I felt pretty good today. Unfortunately I got a slow flat on the final lap, so I had no chance to fight for 5th. But finishing in 6th boosts my confidence for the next couple of races ahead", the Spaniard said. With this result he has moved up to 2nd in the Worldcup's overall standings.

Thomas Litscher struggled for a while to find his rhythm, and he admitted he might have been too nervous before the start. "But from there I managed to move up position by position. The crowds in Nove Mesto were crazy today. As I had been suffering from illness in the two weeks after the race in Australia, I'm satisfied with finishing in 10th." Rudi van Houts had less reasons for satisfaction: "I think my form was good enough for a top20 finish today, and I tried to move up in the standings several times, but I got delayed repeatedly, and during the last lap I suffered from cramps", the Dutchman explained after finishing in 44th.
