BAHRAIN MERIDA PRO CYCLING TEAM

We are proud sponsors and equipment suppliers to the Bahrain Merida Pro Cycling Team.  Not only do they showcase our technology at the highest level of competition they work closely with our R&D team to refine our products.
The team is led by charismatic Italian Vincenzo Nibali, nicknamed The Shark of Messina due to his attacking riding style.  Nibali is considered one of the strongest stage racers of his generation and is the only active pro cyclist to have won all three Grand Tours.

2017 SUCCESSES

Vincenzo Nibali finished on the podiums at two Grand Tours, achieving 2nd place in the Vuelta a España’s overall standings and 3rd place in the Giro d’Italia’s overall, winning a hard mountain stage in each race. He also won the Classic Il Lombardia.
Ramunas Navardauskas’ win at the Vuelta a San Juan’s individual time trial in Argentina represented the first victory on Merida’s Warp TT in a high-level race.
With 3rd places in the overall standings of the Vuelta al Pais Vasco and the Spanish road championships and strong rides in the Tour de Romandie and the Tour de Suisse, Ion Izagirre showed his class before a crash in the Tour de France’s opening time trial forced him to finish his season early due to injury.
Sonny Colbrelli won a rainy stage at Paris-Nice and the Belgian semi-classic Flèche Brabançonne. With top10 results at both the Tour of Flanders and the Amstel Gold Race, the Italian sprinter showed his class in the spring campaign.
Ion Ander Insausti’s win in the final stage of the Tour of Japan in Tokyo was another highlight and Ivan Garcia Cortina impressively won a fixed-gear race at the Red Hook Crit in Milano.

NEW SIGNINGS

The most famous new signing is Italian climber Domenico Pozzovivo, who is set to lead the team at the Giro d’Italia. Gorka Izagirre and former under23 road World champion Matej Mohoric, two strong all-rounders who won Grand Tour stages in Italy and Spain last year respectively are adding to the depth of the team.
Kristijan Koren has been signed to add experience and depth to the team’s line-up for the classics and stage races, while Austrian climbing specialist Hermann Pernsteiner will act as a domestique for mountain stages. Last but not least, Mark Padun is stepping up to the highest level of pro cycling, having gained victories in a variety of under 23 races in recent years, stressing his versatility.

THE 2018 SEASON

With Ramunas Navardauskas, Kanstantin Siutsou, Heinrich Haussler and Ion Izagirre all back to full strength, the team are looking strong.
Vincenzo Nibali is focusing on the hilly Ardennes classics, the Tour de France and the World championships comprising a demanding, mountainous circuit around the Austrian city of Innsbruck. As for the sprinter-friendly spring classics such as the Tour of Flanders and the Amstel Gold Race, the team will be riding for Sonny Colbrelli and Heinrich Haussler. Ion and Gorka Izagirre are strong options for shorter stage races that include time trials and mountain stages, and sprinter Niccolo Bonifazio is hungry for his first win in Bahrain colours. Chun-kai Feng, Meiyin Wang and the vastly experienced Yukiya Arashiro will also participate in the World Tour.
The team roster includes Valerio Agnoli, Manuele Boaro, Grega Bole, Niccolo Bonifazio, Borut Bozic, Feng Chun-kai, Enrico Gasparotto, Heinrich Haussler, Antonio Nibali, Domen Novak, Franco Pellizotti, David Per, Luka Pibernik and Kanstantsin Siutsou,
