Nano Matrix Carbon
Carbon bikes are often subject to considerable strain. To increase the quality of the used material, MERIDA utilizes this premium technology: the epoxy resins are enriched with special nanoparticles to strengthen the matrix of the carbon composite. This way, the impact resistance of the final construction is increased successfully by up to 40 %. “Nano-Matrix Carbon” refines all MERIDA high-end carbon bikes of Model Year 2015.
Bio Fiber Damping Compound
Using nature as a role model, MERIDA refines the construction of different carbon components successfully with special bio flax fibres, which impress particularly with one interesting feature: highly effective vibration damping. Like rigid carbon forks, the rear stays of road bikes or MTB hardtails turn into genuine comfort wonders when these natural fibres are woven into the per se torsion-resistant carbon matrix.
TFS - Techno Forming System
Thanks to its low weight, aluminium still holds a strong position in frame manufacturing. Innovative shapes that go beyond just round tubes can be realized by the mechanical TFS moulding process. Utilized material: Racelite 6061 aluminium.
AWS – Anti Wrinkle System
Due to its technological characteristics, carbon provides designers and developers with many excellent possibilities in bike building usually not offered by other raw materials (e.g. aluminium). The surface structure is visually fascinating – but what does happen inside the frame? MERIDA utilizes specific mould inserts which reduce wrinkling during production considerably. Results: More stiffness and durability but less weight.
HFS - Hydro Forming System
The mechanical TFS process works from the outside to the inside. In contrast, the complex Hydro Forming System shapes the frame by pushing hot oil under hydraulic high pressure from the inside to the outside. Utilized alloy: Prolite 66 aluminium.
Prolite 66 - Triple Butted Aluminium
Triple Butted Aluminium MERIDA’s premium alloy is an extremely durable and light aluminium of high-end quality. Triple-butted wall thicknesses result not only in exciting frame designs: First of all, they offer an optimum Stiffness-to-Weight (STW) ratio.
Racelite 61 Aluminium
A superbly solid and light alloy originally from the aerospace sector. MERIDA subjects this aluminium to an additional heat treatment. Thanks to double-butted wall thicknesses, it perfectly lends itself to the production of light and stiff frames.
Road bikes and MTB hardtails are deliberately rigid in the rear. This way, they do not only reach low weights but also turn each rider-provided watt into propulsion. Yet a rigid rear end transmits bumps back to the rider as well – this affects the athlete’s performance potential. But not in the case of our “Flex Stay” seat and chain stays: Their special design works like a flat spring to absorb surface bumps and reduce vibrations effectively.
Externally butted headtube with a mighty 1.5” steering bearing at the bottom and a weight-saving 1 1/8” one at the top; installed together with a matching tapered steerer fork. Results: Superb stiffness and precise steering performance.
Specifically designed brake-disc dropout for aluminium frames with integrated mounting possibility for HEBIE rear kickstands. For optimal torsion stiffness also during tough braking – a perceptible safety plus!
Rigid carbon front fork, in case of some models realized as full-carbon version. MERIDA carbon forks delight with outstanding vibration damping as well as superb lateral stiffness. Reliable steering and braking performance in every situation.
Post Mount Disc
The modern way of mounting disc brake calipers. Hassle-free alignment and easy installation made possibly by “posts” at the rear dropout. Adaptable to different disc sizes thanks to the utilization of differently dimensioned adapters.
This rear end construction features a “floating” shock: The lower mount moves together with the system and offers very sensitive response characteristics. In addition, engineers are able to influence transmission ratio and progression in an optimal way. In practice, a “Float Link” rear end feels like having more travel than it actually does. Finally, the omission of the shock mount in the main frame provides a clean look.
This is our rear suspension which we have optimized for Cross Country oriented riding and the modern world of 1x drivetrains. It is a single-pivot with linkage system, has a super light carbon rocker (only 80 grams) and allows for light, efficient rear ends whose kinematics totally eliminate pedal-bob when set up with 25% sag. Sensitive in the beginning, with a stable platform in the middle and progressive in the end – RACE LINK works masterfully in challenging uphills and downhills.
The performance of a full-suspension MTB chassis changes with the frame size? Not at MERIDA – due to our “M.O.R.E. Suspension” (“MERIDA Optimized Ride Engineering”) technology! This single pivot and linkage system is used in MERIDA bikes with up to 120 mm travel and makes sure that the thought-through kinematics and excellent drivetrain neutrality stay constant throughout all available frame sizes.
Elaborately shaped frame constructions with special inlets/outlets for internally routed brake and/or shifter cables. “Clean” in a double sense: The bike looks uncluttered while the cables are protected effectively from moisture and dirt.
MERIDA’s in-house “Virtual Pivot Kinematics” is a suspension chassis with a virtual pivot point. You will find VPK in the mountain bike models ONE-FORTY and ONE-SIXTY where it ensures that the bikes of the 145 and 160 and travel category combine outstanding small bump sensitivity, big hit capability and convincing drivetrain and braking neutrality in every imaginable situation.
Thru-axles at the front and/or rear wheel offer various advantages: besides their high torsional stiffness, they especially ensure easy wheel installation and also guarantee an always correct position of the brake rotor. Because in contrast to quick-release solutions, the position of the wheel is always 100 percent the same. MERIDA trusts in 12 mm thru-axles in the rear and 15 mm versions in the front.
Lockout / Remote Lockout
The suspension fork and/or the shock unit in the rear of your MERIDA bike can be locked – either by direct controls or via a “remote control” at the handlebar. Lockout mode is ideally suited for rides on smooth surfaces or powerful sprints/attacks – not only during steep uphills. When things get rougher again, the suspension can be switched on and off in a completely intuitive way via remote.
Besides top functionality, MERIDA frames also offer high visual attractivity. A second welding process during “Smooth Welding” evens the connecting seams – an elaborate concept for a brilliant look without compromises to stability.
C-S Post Mount Disc
“Chain Stay Post Mount Disc” – this technology is the result of three findings. First, a brake mount positioned within the frame triangle optimally protects the brake from external influences. Second, the caliper is supported by the chain stay and is therefore able to distribute the occurring physical forces in an ideal way. Third, internally routed cables can reach the brake neatly from the chain stay.
Double Stop / Down tube Exit
Rear suspension often causes problems with the rear shifting cable (e.g. formation of loops, abrasion/friction, undesired shifting) which are caused by movement during compression. Thanks to a double break via special sleeves (“Double Stop”), MERIDA keeps the defined cable length constant. Due to a large cable exit in the down tube, “Down Tube Exit” additionally puts an end to awkward handling of internally routed cables.
Like WorldTour pro riders, more and more technology-loving road riders trust in Shimano’s electronic Di2 shifting system, which is characterized by high reliability and efficient, effortless operability. Bikes/frames with the symbol “Di2 Ready” are optimally prepared for the installation of this technology – especially with a battery mounting possibility below the chain stay or in the seat post.
Designing high-end road bikes for a WorldTour squad is similar to the work of a Formula 1 team. You’re in it for the win, and even the most inconspicuous detail can finally result in decisive split seconds being lost. So the “Internal Clamp” of our WARP TT and REACTO is much more than just a technical exercise and visual treat: Our special seat-post clamping mechanism efficiently minimizes turbulences at the top end of the seat tube and thereby saves important power.
Modular Head / MODULAR COCKPIT
With the WARP TT, the TEAM LAMPRE-MERIDA trusts in an absolute specialist. To improve the rider’s position on the bike, MERIDA’s very own “Modular Head” system enables the increase of the effective head-tube length via special inserts (30 resp. 60 mm). With an adjustable stem, Di2 integration, variable armrests and aero bars, the “Modular Cockpit” of the WARP TT multiplies the options for individual adaptability even more.
Double Chamber Technology
Via a special reinforcement rib (such as in the full-carbon forks of road bikes), MERIDA competently combines two different technological characteristics which seem to be quite contradictory at first sight: Outstanding torsion-stiffness for maximum handling quality and safety on the one hand, a certain damping flexibility on the other. In this effective way, MERIDA forks become equally safe and comfortable.
Naca - Fastback Profile
The special “NACA Fastback” tube profiles of our WARP TT and REACTO base on the evaluation of data which were collected during comprehensive wind-tunnel tests (with and without pilot simulations). Particularly at the down-tube, seat-tube, and seat-stay sections, the drop-shaped tube designs with their cropped rear ends prove to be optimal in aerodynamic respect. This way, the essential factors of stiffness and aerodynamics can be combined ideally.
Aero road bikes are always hard and unforgiving? Not so at MERIDA! Thanks to our “S-Flex” technology, the REACTO shines with a seating comfort which is outstanding in this segment. With its elastomer window, the aerodynamically optimized seat post absorbs surface bumps very effectively. In this way, “S-Flex” saves the REACTO rider’s power reserves efficiently also over long cycling distances.
Flip Flop Head
Of course, an aero bike has to offer best possible data in terms of aerodynamics. But at MERIDA, best possible adaptability ranges directly second. Because even superb wind-tunnel data can be useless if the pilot is not able to position her-/himself optimally on the bike and thereby produces an unnecessarily high air resistance. Thanks to the “Flip Flop” head for the saddle, the seating angles of our REACTO and WARP TT can be modified optimally.
The “F” for “fork” indicates that the fork of our comfort racer RIDE shares a technological principle with the aero racer REACTO: best possible flexibility paired with maximum performance. “S-Flex” protects the REACTO’s rear end against hard impacts. In a similar way, the “F-Flex” fork of the RIDE ensures effective absorption of surface bumps. Besides comfort, this provides the pilot with extra handling safety.
