Electric road at its best
Our non-assisted 'classic' Scultura has been the pillar of our road bike range for a number of years and has helped our professional road teams and amateur road riders alike to reach their goals. However, more and more of us are sometimes looking for the 'helping hand' of an e-motor while preferring to keep the sleek and stylish silhouette of a non-assisted bike. While not necessarily seeking the full e-motor support for the entire ride, we are keen to have the e-support available when needed while also having the option to easily pedal the bike without too much added weight or extensive motor drag. This is not just on the wishlist for commuters, mountain bikers and leisure riders, but also for the more tarmac-biased road riders out there. With that in mind, we have created the e-version of our 'classic' Scultura- the eScultura.
The eScultura is for all the road riders out there who like an active riding style but are looking for the extra 'tailwind' to catch up with the bunch and to make the climbs that little bit easier. The MAHLE rear hub motor system gives our eScultura an almost 'non-e-bike' silhouette while delivering natural peddling support. While the eScultura is a dedicated road bike with an impressively low overall weight, its comfortable yet sporty geometry and its ample tyre clearance give it versatility and day-to-day usability.
All cables are run internally, to give the eScultura the road bike typical neat look as well as protect the cables from moisture and dirt. We go one step further by letting all cables enter the frame through a specific headset cap called the WIRE PORT, making the cockpit clean and clutter-free.
The internal battery is perfectly integrated into the downtube and allows for a sleek tube shape. The 250 Wh capacity offers sufficient range in the city and on training rides, with the option of an external range extender with an additional 208 Wh capacity.
1.5" HEAD TUBE
Higher system weights and increased cornering speeds demand precise steering. Our 1.5" oversized head tube, combined with a tapered fork, deliver precisely that, giving the rider the confidence to push into the next corner that little bit harder.
iWOC CONTROL UNIT
To keep the cockpit as clean as possible, we have placed the iWOC on/off switch on the top tube. This location makes it perfect for reaching it in every riding condition. MAHLE's iWOC switch is not just an on/off switch but the rider can also toggle between the different support level by pressing the button. Different colours of the LED ring light indicate at which level the system is running.
Our eScultura comes equipped with fast-rolling 32 mm road tyres mounted on 700c rims that make the eScultura the perfect road e-bike companion for the road riders out there who like an active riding style. However, if you are keen to change the configuration of your eScultura to match your next cycle adventure, you can fit 700c wheels with up to 40 mm tyres, even when fenders are fitted. If you should prefer 650b wheels, then up to 47 mm wide off-road biased tyres are no problem.
To easily charge the internal battery of the eScultura, we have positioned the charging port at the down tube/seat tube junction, just above the bottom bracket. This position is perfectly protected and easily accessible.
MAHLE EBIKEMOTION X35+
For our eScultura e-road bike, we are using the trusted MAHLE ebikemotion X35+ motor and battery system that is renowned for its compact size, low weight and an extremely natural riding feeling when delivering assistance as well as when cruising above the 25 km/h maximum support level.
The rear hub MAHLE motor system X35+ offers 40 Nm of smooth and easy to use support and is powered by a 250 Wh internal battery. While the 250 Wh capacity doesn't sound a lot in the first instance, the weight and the efficiency of the rear hub engine in combination with the riding style of an e-road bike, the battery has enough capacity to have a long day in the saddle. And should the integrated battery prove to be not sufficient for an extra-long outing, then a 208 Wh range extender that can be mounted to the frame like a water bottle will make sure that there is plenty of juice in the tank.
All these aspects make our MAHLE equipped eScultura feel almost like a non-assisted bike when going beyond the support level. The rear hub motor has almost no drag when not engaged and keeps the silhouette of the bike as 'non-e-bike' as possible. The intelligent software of the system offers the opportunity to set the support levels at usage-specific levels, allowing, for example, the eScultura set-up to be distinctively different to a more off-road or commuting bike focused configuration - ideal to give our three different e-road bikes the unique set-up their primary 'playgrounds' require.
