Vincenzo Nibali on special SCULTURA for the 100th edition of the Giro d'Italia

Vincenzo Nibali on special SCULTURA for the 100th edition of the Giro d'Italia

Two times winner of the Giro d'Italia and captain of the BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team Vincenzo Nibali will be ‘armed’ with a rather special version of his trusted MERIDA SCULTURA bike for his attempt to add another victory to his trophy cabinet and to become one of only 8 riders who have won the Corsa Rosa three times.

Influenced by the famous spiral shaped trophy of the Giro d'Italia, Vincenzo’s bike will feature a gold banderole which will (similar to the trophy) feature the names of all former winners of the Corsa Rosa and will carry the word ‘centenario’ (Italian for 100 year anniversary celebrations) in honour of this years 100th edition of the Giro d’Italia.

The golden banderole is made of real gold leaves applied to the top layer of the carbon before protected by a clear coating.

Defending champion Vincenzo Nibali will be using this unique bike throughout the event and has strong intentions to take it with him to the top of the leader board when the event finishes in Milan on the 28th May.

The bike is a totally unique and one-off creation which will not be available to purchase later on.

The SCULTURA is one of three bikes that will be available to the BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team during the event. Besides the super lightweight SCULTURA, the riders have also access to the wind slicing REACTO aero bike and the super adjustable WARP TT time trial machine for any time trial duties.

About the SCULTURA:
Launched in 2015 and instantly crowned the lightest production road bike in the world with just 4.52kg (SCULTURA SUPERLIGHT LTD) the SCULTURA has established itself as one of the lightest and most comfortable road bikes in the market. With a frame weight of under 750 g, aero optimised tubing, ample tyre clearance and an aggressive geometry the SCULTURA impresses riders with its extremely quick acceleration and its outstanding climbing and descending qualities. The 2017 version has seen further small upgrades from its predecessor including moving the rear brake from underneath the bottom bracket to the seat stay/seat tube junction for improved brake performance.

We would like to wish the BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team and its captain Vincenzo Nibali good luck in their hunt for the Corsa Rosa.
