What size MERIDA kids' bike?

This is one of the most common questions asked, when it comes to bikes for children,

While we do strongly recommend visiting your local MERIDA dealer to sit the child on a bike and check for size (as every child's height can vary by age), we do also understand that this isn't always possible (shhh... it's a Christmas present).

From as early as around 1-1½ years old, balance bikes are a great, fun way to learn the very foundations of riding a bike, such as moving, steering and - of course - balance!

The below is a guide only and, as with clothing, if a child is towards the upper end of the height scale, it may be worth considering the next wheel size up.

12" bikes — 2 to 4 years old (approx. 82-100cm)

At around 2½ years, children usually grow tall enough to stand over a 12" bike and, with practice, begin to develop the ability to turn the pedals (includes training wheels).

16" bikes — 3-6 years old (approx. 90-115cm)

When 12 inch wheels start to look small (even with the seat up), it's time to upsize!

If 16" is their first bike, don't stress - these are also supplied with training wheels to help children with balancing.

20" bikes — 6-10 years old (approx. 108-130cm)

20" sized bikes can open up a whole new world of adventure, and with that, comes more options - including gears, suspension fork and disc brakes.

24" bikes — 8-11 years old (approx. 120-150cm)

Generally suiting a greater height/age range, 24" wheeled bikes also offer gears, front suspension and disc brake options; and are built to take on more varied terrain as your child grows.
