Creating a completely custom SILEX dream build with road bike channel

Having a dream bike build is something most cyclists aspire to; choosing the perfect parts that complement the frame and then assembling them carefully into a machine that will give as much pleasure to ride as it will to look at. That’s why we were very excited about road bike channel’s latest build which paired the MERIDA SILEX with some top-drawer equipment to create a custom one-off dream bike.

The incredibly versatile SILEX CF2 frame was the starting point for a no-holds-barred luxury gravel bike build. While the SILEX can use both 700c and 650b wheels, the smaller wheel size was the choice for this off-road focussed build, with the carbon fibre rimmed, aero-profiled DT Swiss GRC 1400 wheelset being a perfect choice. These were then finished off with Milkit’s unique tubeless valve system that allows easy addition and removal of tubeless sealant, then Continental’s Terra Trail TR tyres.

A dream build deserves a special drivetrain and Campagnolo’s Ekar 13-speed, wide-range group fits the bill perfectly, offering a touch of Italian flair, especially when used in conjunction with the high-end FSA finishing kit, which includes the carbon K-Force stem and K-Wing bar – plus their Flowtron dropper post to help boost the SILEX’s natural off-road abilities even more.

Of course, it’s small details that matter, so the finishing touches included Jagwire bar tape and PRO LR2 disc rotors, lightweight through axles from the Robert Axle Project and SwissStop disc lockrings and brake pads.
