eONE-FORTY

ONLY DOWNHILL FUN IS SO YESTERDAY

VIEW ALL BIKES

With the eONE-FORTY, we add a completely new model to the MERIDA performance e-mountain bike family. Due to its less aggressive geometry and the 140mm travel, it is more uphill focused than the eONE-SIXTY. The lower front and the steeper seat angle make the eONE-FORTY a great climber. It is equally at home on long and demanding uphills as well at technical downhills and singletracks. The new geometry and frame design give the bike a very playful character, which is precise and fast. Compared to the non-motorised all-rounder model, which very much inspired the handling and playfulness of the eONE-FORTY, the rider can enjoy the benefits of the hugely capable built-in Shimano motor, which makes even demanding climbs an easy endeavour.

The last few years have shown that long travel e-mountain bikes are also often used as a kind of ‘SUV’ bike. Because of the advantages of more travel, bigger tyres and comfortable geometry, the eONE-FORTY also shines away from the trail and enduro tracks and offers a super fun, comfortable and capable alternative to a ‘normal’ mountain bike. We are convinced that the eONE-FORTY fits perfectly in this category as well and that it will find enthusiastic customers here too.

MERIDA bikes are known for: innovation, quality and outstanding performance, three attributes that also describe the new eONE-FORTY. It is a high-end state of the art e-bike. Material, design and integration are cutting edge.

INTENDED USE

Geometry, travel and specification make this bike perfect for trail riding but also for long distance rides. It doesn’t matter if it's a playful trail or a multi-day ride across the Alps, the new eONE-FORTY is your faithful companion.

But besides its trail riding and long-distance abilities, the eONE-FORTY is also a hugely capable and enjoyable ‘SUV’ bike. Because of the travel, the comfortable and upright riding position, the eONE-FORTY gives a lot of confidence and offers a real alternative to a ‘normal’ mountain bike. If a 2nd battery or charging device is carried, there is (almost) no limit for all day riding or multi-day excursions.

KEY COMPONENTS

Energy Guard

Two-component battery cover, which offers perfect protection for the battery. The softer (outer) layer reduces noises, seals the downtube perfectly and absorbs hits from stones easily, while the harder (inner) layer ensures that the battery does not get damaged and gives it the structural shape. All crucial parts like the rubber strap and o-rings for perfect fitting can be replaced.

Thermo Gate

Specifically located openings near the head tube which work like a chimney and allow the warm air to dissipate to guarantee the optimum operating temperature of the internal battery. The THERMO GATE enables the battery to perform at its best, in any condition.

MERIDA EXPERT TR axle

Through axle with removable axle lever. The leaver (when inserted into the axle) allows easy loosening and tightening of the axle. When removed, it works as a 4mm Alley key, perfect for tightening, for example, the seat clamp or the stem bolt, while also ideal for removing the battery or activating the 'wake up button'.

Shimano Motors

Maximum riding fun at any performance level was the key focus in the design and concept of the Shimano STePS systems. The motors are optimised with regards to intuitive handling and despite their impressive performance, deliver the most natural and organic riding experience. The latest versions have seen additional updates of the firmware to match their intended field of application even more. The motor almost immediately responds to any pressure being applied through the pedals which hugely contributes to the intuitive handling and the agility of the system. An equally important feature of the motor is that it also withdraws any assistance at once when pedal pressure is reduced. Based on the compact size of the system it can be perfectly integrated into the overall frame design.

Shimano battery (integrated)

The new Shimano BT-E8035 (504Wh) has a very compact size design which is optimised for the integrated use in the down tube. The battery is equipped with modern, up-to-date battery cells, which are very durable and long lasting. Even after 1000 charging cycles it still has 60% of the capacity, which is currently the best in its class. The battery is IPX5 level and water projected and can withstand water being projected onto it by a water jet with an up to 6.3mm nozzle. The aluminium casing is used for better heat transfer and it is stronger than plastic. Furthermore, it has a high-quality appearance.

MERIDA EXPERT eTR cockpit

The EXPERT eTR cockpit offers internal cable routing for the e-system cables through the handlebar and stem for an extra clean and organised look. As all our e-bike specific parts, the eTR cockpit is tested for a 140kg system weight.

MERIDA EXPERT TR dropper seat post

MERIDA dropper post allowing the rider to get the saddle out of the way when the gradient gets steeper, giving him/her more space to manoeuver and control over their bike. Our 150mm post fits completely into the seat tube of an M size frame, while the L and XL frame can accommodate even a 170mm dropper. As all our e-bike specced parts, it has been tested and certified for a 140kg system weight.

Maxxis DHF 3C EXO TR 29x2.5" / DHR II 27.5x2.6"

The 29x2.5" Maxxis DHF is one of the successful DH tyres from Maxxis and offers in its 29er version better ‘rolling over obstacles’ behaviour than the 27.5” version. This gets paired with a MAXXIS DHR II 27.5x2.6" at the back, for maximum traction yet agile and playful riding characteristics.

Shimano Shifter-R and dropper seat post lever

Very compact and well-defined assist level shifter that helps to keep the cockpit clean and less clattered, while it also enables easy access to the Shimano paddle style dropper seat post leaver, that fits neatly to the brake lever bracket and is positioned underneath the handlebars.

COMPARISON eONE-FORTY AND eONE-SIXTY

The eONE-FORTY and eONE-SIXTY share the same frame but differ a lot in terms of riding character. The difference between the two bikes is that the shock stroke on the eONE-FORTY is shorter. That reduces the rear travel to 133mm instead of 150mm which the eONE-SIXTY offers. On top of that, the shorter 140mm travel fork extends the reach of the eONE-FORTY in comparison to the eONE-SIXTY which is equipped with a 160mm fork. That's the reason why the eONE-FORTY has different sizing compared to eONE-SIXTY. A frame with a 44cm seat tube length, for example, is a size L in the eONE-FORTY, but at the eONE-SIXTY, it is a size M. We believe that a bike with less travel should be more agile and playful than one with more travel, and the reach has a significant influence on that.

Compared to the eONE-SIXTY, the seat angle at the eONE-FORTY is almost one degree steeper and the front is lower because of the shorter travel fork and the shorted head tube. This puts more weight on the front of the bike and gives the eONE-FORTY better climbing performance as the front wheel rises later than at the eONE-SIXTY. Also, due to the shorted fork, the head angle is almost one degree steeper making the bike feel less wobbly at lower speeds. Again, a positive attribute for uphills.

Another big difference compared to the eONE-SIXTY is that the stand over height is lower. The reason for that is the lesser travel, shorter head tube and lower bottom bracket height. Especially for beginners, the lower stand over height gives a lot of confidence. In particular for shorter riders, the eONE-FORTY is a perfect match because there are not many brands which can offer such low clearance.

The eONE-FORTY is also slightly lighter than the eONE-SIXTY. The reason is that the components are less downhill oriented. So, for example, fork, shocks and tyres are lighter, having a further positive effect on the climbing performance.
