  • MORE RUNS, MORE FUN, MORE TIME OUT THERE. RIDE WITH FRIENDS AND GO FURTHER THAN EVER.

A quality e-MTB unlocks all the best bits of mountain biking; riding with friends, searching out new trails and going further on your adventures than ever before. As riders ourselves, we want to create mountain bikes that help as many people as possible have fun out on the trails, riding, smiling and pedalling. This is why we’ve created the MERIDA ETMO, our most price-focussed Bosch-powered e-MTB ever.

We’ve used all our aluminium frame design and manufacturing know-how to create a durable frame that takes inspiration from the hard-hitting and award-winning long-travel eONE-EIGHTY, but in an extra versatile package. The ETMO uses 160 mm of travel (some models come with 140 mm fork and and 143 mm rear travel) at either end and mixed wheel sizes, so it’s fun and fast on any terrain, with handling that’ll bring a smile to the face of experienced riders and fresh faces alike. With the proven and trusted power of Bosch pedal assistance, the ETMO offers battery and drive unit options for every need and wallet, with 540, 600 or 800 Wh internal batteries and the choice of powerful CX or high-value PX drive units depending on the model.

    DESIGNED TO BRING RIDERS TOGETHER

    THE CONCEPT

    FUN FOR EVERY RIDER

SHARING THE THRILL OF THE TRAIL

When used at their best, e-MTBs bring all kinds of riders together. They allow riders of different fitness levels to ride as a group and share the thrills, spills and laughs that mountain biking has to offer. Designing a bike that’s still going to deliver the durability and performance MERIDA e-MTBs are famed for while being as affordable as possible is no mean feat.

    EXPERTISE IN EVERY FRAME

    PERFORMANCE FOR EVERY BUDGET

The ETMO is designed to allow us to offer a Bosch-equipped e-MTB at a price point that we’ve been unable to reach before. When budget is no problem, it’s easy to go all-out in the quest for performance, but packing in as much capability as possible while keeping costs to a minimum is a much trickier task. For the ETMO, we’ve used all of our know-how in designing and building our own aluminium frames for over 50 years to create a range of bikes that are fully-featured and a whole load of fun to thrash on the trails, but don’t hammer your wallet.

    BUILT TO LAST

    CLEVERLY ENGINEERED

Clever engineering and manufacturing techniques allow us to save costs during the production process without compromising the finished frame. Minor tweaks to how the frame is created add up to savings that we can pass on to the rider, allowing them to get on a bike with our proven reliability and lifetime warranty, plus a Bosch drive unit.

    CHOOSE YOUR RIDE

    FULL BOSCH POWER

We’ve not skimped on performance either. All models feature the latest Bosch pedal-assist technology, with either the high-value PX or powerful CX drive unit, depending on the model. We also use internally mounted and removable 540 Wh, 600 Wh or 800 Wh batteries depending on model.

    AGILE. CONFIDENT. VERSATILE.

    THE GEOMETRY

We’ve adapted the award-winning eONE-EIGHTY kinematic and geometry to suit a shorter travel application. With 160 mm of controlled travel at either end, it’s designed to be even more agile and fun on more mellow trails, while still providing serious performance when things get rough. When it comes to geometry, we’ve stuck with our AGILOMETER sizing concept that allows riders to choose the reach and therefore handling character they want, with low standover heights across all frame sizes and stack heights that are reasonably close together so that riders of different heights can find a good bar position using stackers or adjusting the handlebars.

    EASY TO MOUNT

    CONFIDENCE FROM THE FIRST RIDE

We have made some important tweaks to suit the ETMO versus the eONE-EIGHTY. For a start, we’ve gone for even shorter seat tubes and greater standover clearance so that novice riders feel much more confident mounting and dismounting. That’s also paired with a greater bottom bracket drop to give a feeling of being ‘in’ the bike.

    FLICKABLE FUN

    CONTROLLED CLIMBING

As the ETMO has less travel than the eONE-EIGHTY at 160 mm, the head angle is 65º, half a degree steeper than the longer travel bike. We’ve kept the seat tube angle super steep at 78.5º to keep rider weight forward on climbs and deliver tenacious climbing performance, but we’ve increased the chainstay length quite significantly to 446 mm from the short 435 mm of the big travel bike. A short chainstay gives a flickable and fun back end to the bike, which is great for more advanced riders (especially in the bike park!), but it requires a lot more rider input to prevent ‘looping out’ on steep climbs. The longer chainstay of the ETMO suits the bike’s all-rounder status and keeps things more predictable for less experienced pilots, but without making the bike ponderous in tight turns.

BOSCH TECHNOLOGY FOR A PROVEN PACKAGE

    THE DRIVE SYSTEM

We have chosen to partner with Bosch for the drive system ETMO range, giving us the benefits of their well-developed, highly-tuneable and proven systems that cater for the needs of many different kinds of riders and budgets. With huge brand recognition plus international backup and support that’s second to none, they’re the perfect partner for this bike.

    High-performance power and control.

With up to 100 Nm of torque and a peak of 750W, the Performance Line CX drive unit gives ultimate power balanced with sensitive control. Highly proven in our other Bosch-powered e-MTBs, it is a strong, easily controllable, reliable and robust unit.

    High-value. Progressive power.

The Performance Line PX drive unit takes what Bosch has learnt from their very successful CX unit and packs this know-how into a much more affordable package that’s very quiet in operation, thanks to a revised gearing system. The PX drive unit delivers up to 90Nm of torque and 700W of peak power, so despite the affordability, it’s still a potent unit when riding.

    Power your ride.

The ETMO uses both the 540 Wh, 600 Wh and 800 Wh Bosch InTube batteries, which are easily removable via a keyed lock for safety. When using the largest capacity 800 Wh battery, the deeper section of the unit is compensated for via a slightly larger battery cover, nicknamed the ‘BELUGA’ cover. This will be available after-market for those with a 540 or 600 Wh battery who may wish to upgrade in the future.

    INTUITIVE CONTROL. RIDE SMARTER.

EASY TO USE. CONNECTED AND CLEAR.

The more affordable bikes in the range use the all-in-one bar-mounted Purion 200 controller and display. It shows assistance level, battery charge and more via a colour LCD screen and uses a wired connection to the drive unit, though it is Bluetooth enabled, so the use of the advanced Bosch Flow app is possible. The higher-end models use the digital LCD Purion 400 colour display, which is mounted inboard near the stem to keep it our of the way and give a sleek looking cockpit while still displaying a wide variety of information. We pair this with the wireless Mini Remote that is mounted near the grip for easy access when riding.

    THE BUILD. LEGACY OF EXPERTISE.

While MERIDA has been making high-quality bikes for over 50 years and our expertise in aluminium frame manufacturing is second to none, our design and production engineers are always learning as they strive to create better bikes. The ETMO introduces a few key innovations. While outwardly very similar to the big brother eONE-EIGHTY, we’ve refined the manufacturing process in a few key areas.

Single-piece design. Fewer steps. Perfect alignment.

Traditionally, the motor mounting bracket and downtube are two separate pieces that are welded together, but this creates an extra welding step. On the ETMO, we have created this as a single piece. This makes production faster while giving perfect alignment, but it requires our highly advanced casting technology to produce such a large piece in a single process. We also utilise precise robot laser cutting to trim the piece to the correct length for different frame sizes and make the hole for the battery in a single process. We have also been able to create a slimmer downtube by creating in-built battery mounts without using the bulkier Bosch mounting rail.

    Efficient production. Greater value.

Next, we have simplified the production of the seat tube/upper pivot. While the eONE-EIGHTY has an extremely similar side-on profile to the ETMO, the construction is subtly, but importantly, different. The eONE-EIGHTY frame uses a cast piece for the motor mount to the upper pivot section, which then has a seat tube of the correct size welded to it. The ETMO simplifies this by having the entire piece cast as one, with the upper section cut down to the correct frame before being machined to accept the seatpost. This removes the need for the welding step and the careful alignment needed during this process. Removing fabrication steps saves time, resulting in a more affordable bike.

    SMALL DETAILS MATTER

    THE FEATURES

Whether you’re a serious rider or completely new to the sport, the fine details of your bike spec really matter.

    More control, less worry.

All bikes in all sizes now come with short 160 mm crank arms, giving much improved ground clearance over the more traditional 170-175 mm lengths often seen. This means that riders can keep pedalling over rougher terrain without fear of hitting their pedals, allowing them to keep their cadence up and the drive unit delivering power even on tricky and technical climbs.

    Nothing fancy. Everything works.

As ever, we choose to do without any proprietary standards or interfaces, making maintenance much easier. That means using the universally available SRAM UDH mech hanger, which also gives compatibility with the latest generation of SRAM direct-mount T-Type transmissions. We also use standard headsets and spacers plus standard Boost axle spacing for our wheels.

    Comfort and control.

We’ve updated our contact points, with the new half ribbed, half waffle pattern EXPERT TR grips providing comfort and control in spades. We have also used fixed travel dropper posts rather than our travel-adjustable EXPERT TR II unit to save costs, but each frame size is paired with a specific travel post, ranging from 150 mm on the size Short frame up to 230 mm on XLong.

    AGILOMETER sizing system

Our AGILOMETER sizing system has been used on our award-winning mountain and e-bikes. It gives the rider the opportunity to get the handling characteristics they want while still getting a biker that fits perfectly. We keep the standover height, seat tube and head tubes relatively short, with the frames growing mainly in reach as you size up. That means you can pick a short reach for agile, lively handling or a longer reach for more stable behaviour without compromising on other areas of fit. This is backed up with size-specific dropper post travel, ranging from 150 mm on size S up to 230 mm on size XL.

Size tuned suspension. Comfort and control for every rider.

When it comes to suspension, one size often doesn’t fit all. Harder, heavier riders need more support at the end of the stroke to prevent bottoming out, but if the same kinematic is used for a smaller, lighter rider then they won’t be able to use full travel. We get around this issue by using size-specific leverage ratios that give more progression as you go up the sizes, giving riders the support they need. It also means the ETMO is ready to take a coil shock if you wish to change from air.

Trail-ready geometry. From climb to descent.

    FAQ

In keeping with our affordable ethos, we don’t have an ETMO model with a Race motor, but as the mounting bracket is the same, it is possible to fit this unit.

Yes, the Bosch 250 Wh PowerMore range extender can be fitted easily.

The mounting points for the two batteries are identical, but if your bike comes with the 540 or  600 Wh as standard, you will need the larger ‘BELUGA’ cover to use the larger 800 Wh battery. You do not need to change the battery cover if you are going from a bike with the 800 Wh battery as standard to a 540 or 600 Wh battery.
