THE NEW SPEEDER

BUILT FOR REAL LIFE

Urban jungle, country lanes, canal paths, gravel tracks…all of these locations are where our new SPEEDER feels right at home. For years, our SPEEDER was our offering to riders looking for a versatile bike that could handle the daily chores with tenacity and grace, whilst also being a speedy companion for more sporty outings at the weekend.

EVOLVED FOR TODAY

THOUGHTFUL REFINEMENTS

Versatility, durability, simplicity and style. To make the new SPEEDER ready for today’s challenges, we have made a few simple adjustments while keeping the essence of what the SPEEDER was known for, namely simplicity, style and versatility, very much alive.

MORE THAN TARMAC

INCREASED TYRE CLEARANCE

To add comfort, improve puncture protection and give the SPEEDER greater multi-surface capability, we have increased tyre clearance so the frame and fork can accommodate up to 50 mm wide tyres. The stock bike will come with fast-rolling 45 mm gravel tyres, which make covering distance in the city a breeze while adding extra grip and control on looser surfaces, such as a canal path or gravel track. The larger air volume of the tyres increases comfort and improves puncture protection on rough surfaces and pothole-littered roads. And with a 45 mm tyre fitted, there is still space to add fenders to the SPEEDER, making it the perfect all-year-round bike.

SMOOTH BY DESIGN

COMFORT & CONTROL OPTIMISED GEOMETRY

Besides increasing tyre clearance and offering big-volume fast-rolling gravel tyres as stock, which have a significant impact on the comfort and ride quality of the SPEEDER, we have gone one step further and made some adjustments to the frame. The new SPEEDER has a more sloping top tube, giving it a modern look which further exposes the seat post and therefore provides extra length to deflect if the bike hits rough ground. The extra exposure is paired with a thinner 27.2 mm seat post, which further supports the comfort the SPEEDER delivers out ‘in the wild’. Another element we looked at to improve riding comfort and handling was slightly slackening the head angle. This results in the SPEEDER being more stable and controlled when taken off-road or on rougher terrain and can help to master more challenging riding situations.

VERSATILITY UNLOCKED

MULTIPLE MOUNTING POINTS

Our SPEEDER was always known for being a highly versatile bike, but by increasing the tyre clearance and adjusting some parts of the frame, we have increased the comfort and stability, which not only helps in the urban jungle and on rougher country lanes, but also opens the SPEEDER up to feeling right at home on canal paths, gravel tracks and even smoother forest trails. This, paired with multiple fixing points for fenders, racks and frame lock, gives the option to turn the SPEEDER into the perfect all-year-round commuter or flat-bar bikepacking companion.

SIMPLY SMART

LOW-MAINTENANCE DESIGN

For most riders, looking after their bike and doing more comprehensive maintenance is not that high on their agenda. That is the reason why the SPEEDER is kept simple without sacrificing functionality. The majority of our SPEEDER models come with an easy-to-operate and easier-to-look-after 1x single chainring setup that, due to the large gear-range cassette, still offers the right gear for steeper inclines as well as fast-paced flat sections or descents. On top of that, it is equipped with a rigid fork rather than a suspension fork, which further reduces maintenance and offers the added benefit of being substantially lighter. The large-volume tyres and increased seat post exposure, in combination with the more compliant 27.2 mm post diameter, help a great deal in making the SPEEDER a comfortable and well-controlled ride.

DESIGNED AROUND YOU

TWO FRAME OPTIONS

Different riders have different priorities regarding the frame shape they prefer. That is why we have added a second frame option to the ‘classic’ frame with (almost) horizontal top tube. The new SPEEDER will also be available in a mid-step-through frame for easier mounting and dismounting. But in addition to offering these two frame shapes, we also offer two frame levels – the AL-A and the AL-C. The key difference between the two is that the AL-C frame receives less ‘cosmetic’ treatment to keep the price as low as possible, while the AL-A frame, used in the top-of-the-line SPEEDER 500, has all frame welds treated for a seamless carbon fibre look. In addition, the 500 also gets a carbon fork to complete the look, while the remaining SPEEDER models come with a lightweight aluminium fork to keep the price as low as possible.

ADAPT WITH EASE

EVERYDAY READY

While the SPEEDER comes as stock as an unequipped bike, the ample tyre clearance and multiple fixing points make it super easy to fit our SPEEDER EQ kit, including fenders and rear rack, to give the SPEEDER all-weather and load-carrying capabilities. And the frame lock mounts make fitting a frame lock fast and simple.

RIDE WITH CONFIDENCE

GRAVEL-TESTED DURABILITY

The SPEEDER is more than just a flat-bar bike for riding through the city and on butter-smooth tarmac. As with all our bikes, we test our frames and components beyond industry standards, and the SPEEDER undergoes the same testing regime as our specific gravel and gravel race bikes, making it ready for anything a busy day in the urban jungle or on your bike packing tour can throw at it.

FUNCTION AND STYLE

MODERN FRAME AESTHETICS

When sitting on your bike, you don’t just want it to do ‘its job’, but you also want it to look the part and reflect your personality. For us, the SPEEDER is the perfect combination of functionality and style. Its modern frame shape, with its sloping top tube, short ‘sporty’ headtube, and smooth, flowy lines, combined with the clean look of the rigid fork, gives it a stylish, minimalist look, while the comfortable ride, wide range of use, functional drivetrain, and powerful brakes deliver in any riding situation.

YOUR EVERYDAY COMPANION

MADE FOR MODERN RIDERS

A new kind of rider

In the past, we would have described the ‘classic’ SPEEDER customer as a rider who uses the bike for daily chores like commuting or shopping, while also adding some extra miles at the weekend to stay in shape. He or she was not a cyclist as such but enjoyed using their bike as a form of transport and a way of staying fit. With the changes we have made to the SPEEDER, the typical rider is slightly different in our eyes. Commuting and making the SPEEDER work for its money is still high up on the agenda, but what you do with the bike outside its ‘working hours’ has broadened significantly. It still offers a great way to stay fit, but riders now venture further than just country lanes. They see the SPEEDER as a companion for the occasional gravel tour or even a weekend-long bikepacking trip. It now, more than ever before, offers an alternative to our more sport-focused bikes like the SILEX, MISSION or SCULTURA ENDURANCE for riders who prefer a flat-bar setup and have a keen eye on costs.

More than a commuter

Above this, we see the SPEEDER as the perfect town bike for bike enthusiasts who spend lots of time on their high-end road or mountain bike, but want a bike that is ideal for trips into town, the occasional more leisurely tour with friends or for the daily ride into work.

For any ride

While the changes from the outgoing to the new SPEEDER might be subtle, they bring some real benefits and a broadening of usage with them, which can turn the SPEEDER into a real contender for the perfect day-to-day ride. Its perfect combination of versatility, durability, simplicity and style might be exactly what today’s cyclists (sporty or more leisurely) are looking for.
