EMTB-News to review our new ETMO

Only recently launched, the new ETMO was tested by Germany’s EMTB-NEWS, by far the biggest MTB website in Germany and a tough crew to please when it comes to the latest e-bike tech.

Added to our range as a price-aggressive Bosch-powered e-enduro alternative, the ETMO combines a 160 mm travel aluminium chassis inspired by the award-winning eONE-EIGHTY with the latest Bosch battery and drive unit technology to deliver fun-packed trail performance at an affordable price.

This is one of the key points the test crew picked up early in their review and were impressed by the finishing of the frame, the well-thought-through frame details and the frame protection, which was all part of the build.

Further to that, balanced geometry, drivetrain specification, and a long-travel dropper post left a positive impression on the test team.

Out on the trail, the ETMO really started to shine. Despite its mass, it remained super agile and responsive, and the suspension configuration, as well as the fork and shock unit components, performed well on the trail.

Their final verdict:
“If you look purely at the key figures, you’ll quickly notice the 27 kg weight (excluding pedals) – and might think the Merida Etmo 800 is a sluggish e-mountain bike. Our test proved the opposite: the Etmo masks its weight elegantly and uses it to enhance its handling. A geometry that’s generally well-suited to its intended use, a well-balanced suspension that strikes a good balance between firm and responsive, and largely appropriate spec combine to form a solid overall package: agile and fun on the descents and blessed with excellent climbing capabilities, the Etmo 800 is definitely worth a test ride.”
